When the devastating earthquake struck Syria & Turkey on the 6th of February 2023, thousands of homes were destroyed, displacing families, schools, and hospitals, including medical and educational facilities that were either damaged or destroyed.
More than 59,000 people were reported to have died in the two quakes which devastated large areas of south west Turkey and across the border in Syria.
Survivors of the earthquake are still receiving vital supplies thanks to the British Red Cross, UK for UNHCR and UNICEF who are leading the relief effort on the ground.
The Charities have been working tirelessly since the earthquakes to scale up immediate lifesaving assistance to affected communities, assessing the impacts of the disaster and supporting the rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure and restoration of basic services.
On behalf of its members, The Province of South Wales is delighted to support the 3 leading disaster relief Charities by donating £2,000 to each, to help and assist with the ongoing aid within the affected regions.
