On Wednesday, 11th December 2024 W.Bro. Christopher M.L. Davies, Assistant Provincial Grand Master (AProvGM), accompanied by his Provincial escort, attended the installation ceremony at Caerdydd Lodge No. 3959, held at Cardiff Masonic Hall. W.Bro. David Tester was installed as the new Worshipful Master, attaining the Chair of King Solomon in an exemplary manner. The AProvGM commended the Lodge, noting that all officers below the Worshipful Master wore the light blue apron of a Master Mason. This, he remarked, highlighted the Lodge’s growing strength and vitality within the Province.
The Remarkable Story of Caerdydd Lodge
Only two years ago, Caerdydd Lodge faced the daunting challenge of potentially surrendering its warrant due to dwindling membership. However, the Lodge experienced a dramatic transformation, thanks to a strategic partnership with the Widows Sons, a Masonic motorcyclist group. This collaboration injected new energy and purpose into the Lodge, attracting members from across the Province.
Initially, nine brethren, now fondly referred to as the “First 9,” joined the Lodge to ensure its survival. These pioneers proudly wear a “First 9” badge on their motorcycle cuts, a symbol of their dedication and the Lodge’s rebirth. Since then, Caerdydd Lodge has seen unprecedented growth, now boasting over 49 active members within the Widows Sons and establishing itself as one of the fastest-growing Lodges in the Province.
A Lodge Rooted in Brotherhood and Friendship
Caerdydd Lodge is celebrated not only for its Masonic work but also for the warmth and camaraderie it offers. Visitors are met with genuine hospitality, leaving as friends. This culture of brotherly love is reinforced by regular gatherings outside Lodge meetings, including curry nights, Sunday breakfasts, ride-outs, and coffee meetups. These activities foster strong bonds and a sense of togetherness among members and associates
Commitment to Charity
- In addition to its thriving membership, Caerdydd Lodge and the Widow Sons under the President Worshipful Brother Ed Shepherd, has made significant charitable contributions, reflecting the Masonic ethos of benevolence. The Lodge has supported numerous charities including:
- The Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court
- Special education initiatives
- Autism support units
- Children’s Christmas events
- Specialised cancer support services
These efforts have collectively raised thousands of pounds, showcasing the commitment to making a positive impact beyond the Masonic community.
A Bright Future
Caerdydd Lodge No.3959 home of the Widow Sons stands as a testament to the power of unity, resilience, and innovation within Freemasonry. Its inspiring journey from the brink of closure to becoming a beacon of growth and brotherhood serves as an example to Lodges throughout the Province and beyond.
