On Friday, 14th January 2025, Luminary Lodge No. 8530 held their annual Installation Ceremony at Merthyr Masonic Hall. The occasion was honoured by the presence of W.Bro. Dr. Akram Baig, Assistant Provincial Grand Master (AProvGM), who attended with his official Provincial escort.
The ceremony saw W.Bro. Gregory Thomas, Senior Warden and Worshipful Master Elect, installed as the new Worshipful Master of the Lodge, attaining the Chair of King Solomon for the first time, with an exemplary performance by the Installing Master, W.Bro. Paul Jones, who conducted his duties with great commitment and dedication.
The evening was well attended, with over 50 Brethren present at the festive board, where enjoyment and laughter prevailed, reflecting the camaraderie and togetherness within the Lodge
The journey of Luminary Lodge No. 8530 began with an initial meeting on 15th January 1972 to discuss its formation. The Petition was subsequently presented to its Sponsoring Lodge, Loyal Cambrian Lodge No. 110, on 7th June 1973, leading to the granting of the Warrant on 12th September 1973.
The Lodge was officially Consecrated on 13th November 1973 by the Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. the Rt Hon Lord Swansea, DL, with W.Bro. David Gerald Williams being Installed as its Primus Master.
The Lodge name, Luminary, was chosen to symbolise an enlightened approach, with Light playing a central role in both the Banner design and Lodge Motto. It was recognised that the Volume of the Sacred Law would be the most appropriate emblem, inspiring the Lodge’s motto, “Lux Fiat”—a phrase meaning “Let there be light.” This not only references the first words of God but also signifies the pursuit of Masonic knowledge and enlightenment.
