
On Thursday, 13th March 2025, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, V.W.Bro. D. Huw E. Mosford, accompanied by Assistant Provincial Grand Masters W.Bro. Robert G. Payne, W.Bro. Dr. Akram Baig, W.Bro. Timothy R. Clark, and W.Bro. R. Michael Coombes, paid a surprise visit to the Provincial Hub in Swansea. Their mission was to honour and express gratitude to the Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. D. Gerald Rowbottom, who had recently retired as Most Excellent Grand Superintendent of the Royal Arch in the Province of South Wales.
Having led the Royal Arch for eight successful years before retiring on 8th March 2025, The Provincial Grand Master was taken aback by the unexpected arrival of the Craft Executive. In recognition of his service, dedication, and leadership, he was presented with a beautifully engraved Sceptre, a token of appreciation for his unwavering commitment to the Province and its Brethren & Companions.
Assistant Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro. Robert G. Payne, had the honour of addressing the Past Most Excellent Grand Superintendent on behalf of the Deputy Provincial Grand Master and the Craft Executive. In a heartfelt tribute, he expressed their deep appreciation for his years of guidance and steadfast devotion, and wise counsel.

Provincial Grand Master, you have embodied these principles with integrity, humility, and a deep sense of duty. Under your stewardship, our Province has not only flourished but has strengthened its bonds of unity, charity, and brotherhood.
You have led by example, ensuring that our traditions remain strong while embracing the changes necessary to keep Freemasonry relevant and thriving in the modern era. Your support for the Brethren & Companions, your wise counsel, and your tireless efforts have left an indelible mark on our Province and beyond.”
The occasion was one fitting for a leader who has given so much to the Province of South Wales. It was a touching tribute to a man whose legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations of Freemasons.
