Compliments of the season to all of you, Brethren.
I write inviting you to participate in an exciting publicity opportunity. I copy below a letter received from the UGLE Director of Comms, which I think it is self-explanatory. If you’d like advice or chat about it, please email or call. I’m at home over the Christmas period. To participate, please let me know ASAP and I will email you an application form. The deadline is Jan 6th.
With 2017 approaching and our efforts to counter many of the misconceptions around Freemasonry, we have agreed to work with a leading television production company to make an observational documentary series for a national broadcaster. The plan is that it will air late next year or as our Tercentenary year kicks off.
While many may think they understand the concept of Freemasonry, few can describe what we are and what we do, with any confidence or accuracy. The general public also has little knowledge of the huge amount we offer and contribute to society through our charitable activity and beyond.
Fundamental to making this series a success will be the Freemasons who take part in the series – telling their own stories and sharing their personal experiences of what Freemasonry means to them. For this reason we need your help.
As with the DVD, we are looking for individuals who are happy to be filmed for a national TV programme talking openly about what Freemasonry means to them. Specifically, we are looking for:
- Three men in three different Lodges around the country as they embark on their journey through the three degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft and Master Mason
- Three Master Masons from three different lodges
- Members from a new Lodge which has recently been or is about to be consecrated
- Members involved in special initiatives and events
Each man will be working toward a different degree or the chair and it will be through their experiences that the basic tenets of Freemasonry will be discovered and revealed, along with the organisation’s history and how it operates today.
The individuals selected will be followed over a number of months between January and May 2016 taking part in their various different activities – both within the Lodge and externally in the community or through the charitable work.
We will be holding official casting days in the first two weeks of January and would be most grateful if you could identify who you feel would be appropriate and encourage them to fill in the attached form to be returned by 6th January 2016.
You need to be sure that you or who you are proposing and their family are happy to be filmed for a national TV programme.
