The Provincial Grand Master has announced that W. Bro. James R. Bevan, PJGD, Provincial Grand Secretary, has decided to retire with effect from 30th June this year. W. Bro. Jim has served the Province with great distinction for over 26 years and has been a permanent member of the Provincial Executive under four Provincial Grand Masters.
Commenting on his retirement, W. Bro. Jim said:
“It has been both a privilege and a pleasure to serve the Brethren of South Wales over so many years, but eventually all good things must come to an end. Our Provincial Grand Master is now firmly established in his new role and has drawn a dedicated and able team around him. Our Annual Meeting would therefore seem a logical and appropriate time for me to stand down and to pass on the baton of administration to my successor. Thereafter I hope to be able to devote more time to the labours of my various Lodges and Chapters, to further hone my skills in the area of clay pigeon preservation and to re-acquaint myself with the family dog, who at present views me as an infrequent visitor to Tŷ Bevan.”
RW Bro. Gareth Jones, OBE, Provincial Grand Master, said:
“Jim has been a source of great knowledge and expertise for over a quarter of a century. The Province and successive Provincial Grand Masters have relied heavily upon his wise counsel and his keen attention to detail which have been key factors in supporting the development of the Province over the years. We will miss his encyclopaedic knowledge, loyalty, commitment to the Craft and outrageous sense of humour. Without doubt, he will be a hard act to follow.”
The PGM has welcomed W. Bro. Jim’s continued involvement up to, and including, the Provincial Grand Lodge meeting on 30th June this year. Arrangements for a successor to W. Bro. Jim will be announced in due course.
