What a delight it is to see so many Brethren supporting Lincolnshire’s “Walking Freemason,” W.Bro. Chris Jones, as he makes his way through our Province. The support and assistance have been overwhelming, including tours of Masonic Halls, invitations to Lodges and Chapters, accompanying him on his walks, and meeting him socially.
You’ll be pleased to know that Chris has arrived safely in Porthcawl, where he has been warmly welcomed by the Brethren from Port Talbot, Neath, and Porthcawl. These Brethren have taken the time to show him around their Halls and spend some quality time with him.
Chris is embarking on an incredible journey of 7,500 miles, which will take around 18 months to complete, all in aid of the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF). He aims to raise up to £100,000. Chris openly shares that he came close to suicide and credits the counselling service provided by the MCF with saving his life. This fundraising effort is his way of expressing gratitude and ensuring the help and vital services he received will be there for others, while raising awareness that support is available for those in need.
Many Freemasons have already helped Chris in various ways:
- Allowing him to spend the night in a Lodge.
- To let him to camp in their garden.
- Put him up in a B/B or hotel.
- Wash and dry his clothes.
