Venables Llewelyn Lodge No.3756 recently held a fantastic virtual Race Night at the Masonic Hall in Porthcawl, drawing support from brethren, family, friends, and members of the wider community, including non-Masons. The evening featured a delicious three-course meal, an exciting raffle, and an engaging lineup of virtual horse races.
The event, organised by W.Bro. Adrian Hooper and W.Bro. Peter Taylor, was a resounding success, raising an impressive £1,500. Proceeds from the evening were donated to the Sandville Self Help Foundation, a charity dedicated to supporting individuals with life-limiting and life-changing conditions.
The foundation, established in 1983 by Sister Gwyneth Poacher, one of the region’s first Macmillan cancer nurses, has grown significantly over the years. It continues to provide vital services to those in need, offering care and support to countless individuals and their families.
W.Bro. Adrian Hooper and W.Bro. Alan Dicks visited the foundation to present the cheque to staff members Julia and Wendy, who were delighted by the generous donation. Reflecting on the success of the event, W.Bro. Adrian Hooper expressed his gratitude for the incredible support shown by attendees and the local community.
The Sandville Self Help Foundation shared their heartfelt thanks:
“This amazing contribution means the world to us and helps us continue providing essential services to those in need. We’d also like to extend our thanks to Adrian Hooper and Alan Dicks for coming down to the centre and presenting a cheque to our wonderful staff members Julia and Wendy.”
This donation highlights the ongoing commitment of Freemasons supporting local charities and making a positive difference within their communities.
